Church to display Kaka's Player of the Year trophy
Saturday, January 05, 2008

Kaka has reportedly presented his 'FIFA Player of the Year 2007' trophy to his church in Renacer em Cristo in the neighbourhood of Cambuci in Brazil's southern city of Sao Paulo.

The deeply religious footballer, who plays for Italian club AC Milan, has handed over the trophy to the church during the New Year's Service, Spain's EFE news agency reported Friday.

'This (the trophy) is the first of many I plan to win. I thank God for this and I'm going to leave it here, in the house of the Lord, so that everyone can see it,' the player said during the service, which was attended by some 5,000 people.

Kaka said that he wants to share his victory with the fans. 'I didn't win it alone,' he said, and added that one day he would like to be a priest.

The trophy will remain at the church at a memorial dedicated to its most famous members, reports said.

After AC Milan defeated Boca Juniors in the final of the Club World Cup, played in December in Japan, Kaka revealed a T-shirt with the text 'I belong to Jesus'.

The midfielder has also given a replica of that shirt to Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva last week during a private ceremony at the head of state's Granja do Torto official residence in Brasilia.
