Kaka happy at Milan
Thursday, January 10, 2008

Kaka has his feet firmly on the ground and his heart firmly at Italy’s fashion capital. With a contract which keeps him at the San Siro at least till 2011, the World and European player of the year revealed to XPRESS that he is willing to bide his time in order to get the coveted armband.

"My contract with AC Milan keeps me at the San Siro till 2011. My dream is to be the captain of Milan one day. I know how things function there. The club has a hierarchy system whereby only the longest-serving players get the armband. But I am willing to wait my time," he said.

The attacking midfielder joined AC Milan in 2003 and has won the Serie A, the Champions League and the World Club Cup title. While his future with Milan was in doubt prior to the Champions League final last season, when he had thoughts about quitting the club, Kaka’s commitment to the Milan cause is now more evident than ever with coach Carlo Ancelotti remarking: "The chances are I will leave the club before he does."

So, what do the awards mean to Kaka? "With awards come responsibilities. Awards definitely spur me on. While it’s good that I have won them individually, Milan deserve to win more as a team," he said. And talking of responsibilities, Kaka is also well aware of his stature in the sport.

"I am an ambassador for the World Food Programme for Children in Brazil, besides being an ambassador for the Special Olympics for Children as well," said the man who also dreams of seeing Brazil win the Olympic gold in Beijing this year.
