Tissone strike breaks Milan hearts
Sunday, January 27, 2008
A second-half strike from Fernando Tissone gave Atalanta an unlikely 2-1 win over AC Milan in the only game played in the Serie A on Wednesday evening.
The 21-year-old popped up in the 68th minute with the hammer blow to crash Milan's hopes of gaining a much-needed away victory.
Before that goal went in, it had looked like a game that could swing in favour of either team, yet it was the hosts that took advantage and went on to win it.
It started very differently though with Gennaro Gattuso putting the visitors ahead as early as the 16th minute with a typically robust strike from the fiery Italian.
Alexandre Pato, who had kept his place in the starting line-up, looked lively as he pushed the Atalanta defence back into their final third, but the final ball never arrived for the Brazilian to slot in.
So that gave The Orobici hope of finding an equalisier, and one soon came when Antonio Langella found the back of the net on 41 minutes.
After the break Milan tried to find a second goal that would put them back in the lead and even brought Ronaldo on to aid that pursuit, but it led to nothing.
Instead, Tissone was the one who scored for Atalanta as they stunned everyone by going in front and staying there all the way until the final whistle.
It was a great win for the home team, but Milan will be very disappointed that they dropped points in this game.
